Glimpses of January

Ammon is constantly making and building things. This is a net made with paper and tape and a chopstick and maybe dental floss?

I could eat her up.

T looooves her brothers.

This was a self photo by Noah.

Another picture by Noah, because Travis balanced the broom and obviously it was a picture moment. You can't even tell it's standing by itself in the picture, though. What a talented husband I have. He can do all kinds of cool and crazy things.

Ammon's new obsession is wanting to sleep in weird places. He had built a fort in his room and take apart mattresses, etc, and asked if he could sleep in it. I gave in, and Noah came down later to ge the camera and said "Ammon is the deepest sleeper I have ever met. He is sounds asleep with a mattress on his head. He didn't even wake up when I picked the mattress up and dropped it again!" I went up and moved the mattress off his head.

This is my only picture from the pinewood derby, until I get copies from my nice friend who let me take her camera and go crazy (after my battery died). Kaden got second place! That was kind of fun and unexpected, especially since I let Trav go tdy before he put the wheels on the cars and I had to do it. Scary.

My birthday flower from my awesome childhood and lifelong friend, Val. Oh if I could be a better and more considerate birthday person. Trav was still in Florida on my birthday, and I was totally fine with the normal day that birthdays are anymore. But a friend surprised me with a birthday cake, 2 of my cute boys hid under the table making bday pictures for me to hang on my door until morning, and Noah got up early to make breakfast for me (but then felt like throwing up and had to go back to bed--he DIDN'T throw up, though, so yet another birthday blessing...), and 3 wonderful friend arranged a babysitter and took me out to lunch. It was a pleasantly wonderful day..

This was a less wonderful moment when I was cooking too many things at once and thought the timer went off for the soup, and an hour and a half later, wondered wear my batch of bread was. Oh yeah, it was still in the oven getting hard as a rock. My very smart and resourceful kids got the idea that the middle would still be edible though, so we scooped out the middles to eat with soup that night. That made me feel a little better.

The gingerbread houses we made for Kaden's class. Kind of strange that they were decorating them in January (actually Feb 3rd) but they still had a blast doing it.

PARTY...

We had a birthday party for Kaden on Saturday (okay now it was over a month ago--slacker blogger). To tell the truth, I am not a big party mom. We don't do big friend party's for every birthday, but I think have decided maybe the 5th, 8th, and 12th, we will do parties and then go from there. We made the short list of people to invite, and I don't even know what happened to make it grow to the 20 kids that we had there. There were really only 3 or so from his school class but you can't invite just one or two from his church class, or from the neighborhood friends. And apparently we picked a good weekend because EVERYONE we invited was able to come. I panicked a little at first because, like I said, I am not an organized and fun party mom. But it actually went pretty smoothly and was so fun.

Here is my pathetic Dragon's lair that took what seemed like forever to set up and then blew down 30 minutes before the party.

Here is the emergency dragon's lair that was much better and did not blow down, and took like 5 minutes.

Complete with burnt markings on the grass so the kids would know they were close.

Chase the Dragon tale. I could not believe the weather was warm enough for us to all be out without even wearing jackets. This has been a crazy warm winter!

Dragon roasted marshmallows.

The fourth volcano cake I have made...I am pretty sure 3 of them were for Kaden. He must like them. I have always thought for a split second about having the volcano actually erupt, and this time, I decided to go for it. It was so fun! And way easier than I imagined. I think I was just intimidated because I didn't even know how to find or buy dry ice. Now I know. Phew.

Our awesome dragon pinata...

Pin the tail on the dragon.

We split into 3 groups and sent them on clue hunts to find their portion of the map to the Dragon's lair. Then they had to piece it together and follow it. They were totally into this.

Pinata loot.
Time to blow her...

Kaden's big day

What a special day Kaden's birthday was. On January 3rd, his birthday, he was baptized. He was so eager and so excited, and so happy that it worked out to be his actual birthday. He is such a good kid. When he makes a bad choice, he can't handle it and always has to come and tell me with tears in his eyes. After a little incident a couple of weeks ago, he said dispairingly to me "Mom, I think I need a CTR ring so I can remember to choose the right". He is the most helpful and caring big brother to his little sister. He has the cutest little dimples. I am so proud of him and his choice to follow the Savior and be baptized. We wonderful friends here who were so supportive and awesome to join us, and the spirit was strong. I hope he felt it--I sure did. Taryn is so proud of him too.

I love Taryn looking up at her Daddy. She must thing he's handsome and amazing too.

What we've been playing with

Blenders, babies, and pinatas...all very fun things to play with...

Here is my new and very exciting and very awesome toy that I got for Christmas. I feel SO spoiled and was so surprised and excited! Isn't it so beautiful? I have used it every single day since I got it and most days at least twice and up to 4 or 5 times. Smoothies, experimented with rice and almond milk, banana ice cream, almond butter, lots of pancakes.
Here is the funnest toy in the family right now.

I told Kaden I was going to make a pinata for his birthday party. He said "Actually Mom, I think I just want to play with my friends and not have lots of games and stuff". I told him if you have 15 + friend over at once you HAVE to have some planned activities. He generously agreed that I could make a pinata. This turned out to be such a fun activity to do together. The boys had so much fun with me doing and planning every step. It was so exciting to see the day to day progress and everyone chipped in with their artistic talents and expertise. My expertise was in mixing flour and water and slopping it on, and they were all very opinionated in things like colors and shapes of ridges and wings, etc. It was a great project for the Christmas break.

Oh here is this fun little toy again...she is fun to dress up. It still boggles me daily that I have a little girl. A girl!

Merry Christmas

Kids coming down to see if Santa remembered us...I know Noah was awake, but I pretty much woke everyone else up including Taryn. Normally I would NEVER wake my baby early, but I was thinking that with church at 11:00, maybe I could wake her early and put her down right at 9 and she would get a decent nap before church....It didn't work perfectly, but decently...anyway...
They had to eat their Captain Crunch (who started that tradition anyway--SO not good for you), and then we headed in to find the stockings and Santa gifts.

A year ago we went to a Childrens museum that had this fun game called "Skittles". We took lots of pictures and Trav built one during that 2 weeks of leave. I love that he is so talented. And this game is so much fun. For sure we surprised them on this one.

Taryn had a blast with everyone's paper. I did not buy her even one present. I knew we had more than enough baby toys already and that she would be more interested in the paper and boxes. But I admit that as I set out stocking and hers just had a clementine and a few blueberries, I started to feel guilty. But in the end it was SO good, because she got spoiled from other people instead. Why is opening your baby's presents just like opening your own?

I love new bows and clothes for her!

Micah is always gratifying to watch. He exclaims so enthusiastically about everything and gives huge hugs. Seriously...I already had a couple of adorable dresses that would be great Christmas dresses for this little girl. And then I saw this one at the Bargain box and could not stop myself. Two dollars. Yet it was unnecessary. I know this. But SO CUTE...

Getting home from church. I like having Christmas on Sunday. For me it seemed to make the good part of Christmas last a little longer and helped us focus on the Savior a little better on the actual day (a little).

She is giving me luvs. She is such a sweet baby. I can't even express how much we all love having this girl around.

Taryn liked the game, too.
