Itty Bitty Watermelon

The day Shauna and Bailey left we went to a Botanical Garden down by the airport. That place was really incredible. I didn't have my camera....the next day as I was looking at our dead watermelon plant in the garden, and figured I might as well pick the little watermelon that hadn't grown for a month. It was so ripe and yummy. It didn't take long for these guys to gobble it down...

Williamsburg and Buckroe Beach

Hmm we didn't do these things the same day, but I don't feel like fixing it. One afternoon we walked around Williamsburg, and then found a Seafood place to eat dinner, and on another day we went to Fort Monroe, and army base with a moat still around it and a really cool museum, then to Buckroe beach so that Kaden could learn to like getting stung by jellyfish...

Our first picked watermelon

This melon was so big, but obviously I didn't know how to tell a ripe watermelon and was not paitent enough. But we ate the whole thing anyway and it was still really good. I waited another month before picking the next one, and wow--that was yummy.

DC Day #3

On the last day we checked to see if we could possibly get tickets to the top of the Washington Monument. We couldn't. So went to the Natural History Museum and lost the kids a few times, then went to get the van from the hotel and drove to the Pentagon, where we didn't realize there was a 9/11 Memorial. Then we drove home...

Yuck

DC Day #2

This is the day we made some tired children walk many miles. We had hoped to set up some great system of riding the metro or other ways we had read about, but we didn't know what we were doing and no one was very helpful and we started out walking, and kept walking. We went by the White House, then to the Lincoln Memorial, and then decided to walk to Arlington Cemetery, then walked around in the Cemetery not realizing how very huge it was. It was incredible and fun, though. It's just that when we found our way back to then entrance, the kids were done, so we decided to see if there was a taxi who would take an odd and crazy crowd like ourselves to the Air and Space Museum. And that's what we did. The best $13 dollars I have ever spent...

Washington DC day 1

DC Templeo--BaileyJeffereson Memorial

Washington Monument
National Archives
Eating sandwiches in the sculpture park

This first day we drove up to the DC temple and then checked into our hotel, walked to the National Archives and saw the Declaration of Independence, and then ate dinner at the sculpture park, and then Shauna went to Union Station to do a tour of some of the major monuments, while the boys and I went back to the hotel to get Micah settled.

More catch us pics from Shauna's visit

Neptune statue at Virginia Beach
USS Wisconsin. It was so cool to tour this huge battleship. The kids liked it to, a lot, but even more they liked all the jellyfish (or I guess they were called "nettles") that we could see in the water.

Trying to keep Micah happy in the battleship museum, while Kaden and Noah ang Bailey got enlisted into the US Marines by a nice fellow.
